So some family members can go a long time between problems. Maybe some of the curses are coming to an end and trying for one last big blast.

That or maybe the blessing found Peter has the luck needed to deal with a lot of the problems.

The habbit was that he had to lie about what was going on. Or be stuck in a padded room for the rest of his life. And that would probably be a story as well. Something about haunted straps and an angry chair.

I have to wonder how many times Peter called Grandfather for help and he didn't immediately show up because he was duking it out with some other supernatural nasty.

And when you mentioned a creature made out of icicles, instead I envisioned Mr. Snow Miser from that christmas claymation.
