Oh dear - I suspect this won't end well for poor Gus. Monsters never get killed this early in a story. :-( Noble effort, though...

BTW, when I first spotted the line of dialogue with Gus chanting, before having fully read the paragraph ahead of it, my first thought was that Stu's Australian dialect had finally reached the point of total incomprehensibility. I actually spent a minute staring at it trying to figure out what it could possibly mean, before I saw the part before and realized it wasn't actually Stu, or in English.

WV: raness: (Old English) an obscure form of female nobility, higher than a baroness but lower than a countess.

Well that sucked big time, and now Snowy is there. At least Gus followed them to make sure they got clear. Looks like it's time to go back to Gus's cabin and spend the night.

I hope Stu is ok, as that was one nasty fall.

Yeah, it rarely does end well, does it? Not this early...

Haha! Well, you know, Winnapotakan can sound remarkably like a drunk, muttering Australian who's singing intelligibly to himself...

Snowy. That's my new mascot's name.
