I have very much the same feelings about mannequins as Peter does. Which is why, as soon as I saw the title of this story a few days back, I cringed and thought "Great - after reading this one I know I will never sleep again!"
Of course, you will note that that is in no way stopping me from reading it anyway. :-)
You know, it's silly but, I find the ones with no head//body//legs less creepier then the ones that look life like. It's mostly because of Peter's whole 'they have everything so they're good' reasoning.
Torso's can't move without arms and legs, so I'm safe. Heads can't move with out bodies, but TV has taught me that they can use their tongue, but they can't grab me so I'm safe. Leg ones can kick and run, so I'm only partly safe.
Oh and I'm also a little freaked out by the children mannequins where they add hair of yarn.
PETER AND THE VAMPIRES is a horror/comedy web novel (and a free podcast!)about a normal, 10-year-old kid who moves into a sinister town filled with supernatural horribleness. The series is composed of different "monster of the week" stories - kind of like THE X-FILES crossed with THE SIMPSONS (if Mr. Burns were a ghoul and something terrifying lived in the town dump). "Peter And The Dead Men" is the first story in the collection. A new page is posted every day.

Safe? Safe?! You're not safe from ANY of them, as you shall soon see...
Hmm..it's a good thing Grandfather's house doesn't have a TV so Peter hasn't been exposed to those new Old Navy ads....
