PETER AND THE VAMPIRES is a horror/comedy web novel (and a free podcast!)about a normal, 10-year-old kid who moves into a sinister town filled with supernatural horribleness. The series is composed of different "monster of the week" stories - kind of like THE X-FILES crossed with THE SIMPSONS (if Mr. Burns were a ghoul and something terrifying lived in the town dump). "Peter And The Dead Men" is the first story in the collection. A new page is posted every day.

Somehow, I think getting expelled from school is going to be the least of their worries very soon...
WV: serthus: a rare genus of carnivorous plants found in the subarctic tundra of Greenland.
Can minors even go to jail? Pretty sure they have to be at least 16 to be in a proper cell.
(Looked it up - 17-18, depending on jurisdiction. Although I'm not sure about if they're just there until their parents come.)
Which means this guard is a badass, playing head games like that, along with the misleading gun and talking back to Dill. Which means he'll be dead in, oh, 10 pages.
Torths = Those depressions in the ground, like anti-hills which are too small to be called valleys.
The 'red shirt' guard has no name yet, unless I missed it. And Rubberduck might have a point about the guard not making it long.
And if the power is out, how does the guard expect the towers to have power.
And now stuff could start moving around, with the power out and the lighting set for a good monster showing.
