There's one thing about Grandfather's story that's bothering me, and that is that he's not his usual taciturn self. Not that he couldn't use some loosening up, but the reason the boys are having this little chat in the first place is because they got in trouble.
That was a pretty resourceful solution, though.

Huh...well, it's definitely true he's a little more forthcoming...I think this is, in some ways, a lot more graphic illustration of "Do what I tell you to do, because otherwise you could get hurt," and the retelling of it is painful and repugnant to him.
