Drat, there goes my theory :) I thought that they would turn out to be animal-people; you know, the Siamese twins could actually be Naga, the guy with flippers could be Selkie, and the anouncer could be some sort of Lizard-man (Kobold?). The fat lady kinda squashed that idea, though (heh). Hey, I wonder if Peter can get out of the danger he undoubtedly will find himself in by making the fat lady sing? ;) Too much? Yeah, sorry. ~Um the Muse
well not quiet -Um the Muse.. there are a couple things that she might be, Bicorne or Giantess or Ogress... My guess would have been Bicorne if Darren hadn't said that the dad wouldn't be addressed till later.
daymon34 - As we'll soon see, Barnaby Bones has some other, more insidious ways to use his talents...
Um the Muse & AnakMoon - Interesting theory, and one I might steal for a future story! But no, these are honest-to-gosh freak show folks, with abilities beyond those of regular people.
I only got half the allusions in your theory, though. I know what Selkies are (sea folk who can switch between human form and seal form by using magical skins), and I'm assuming Naga relates to the Hindu snake deities mentioned by Wikipedia.
And I know what a Giantess or Ogress is...but what's a Bicorne? And why would Midge be one?
And I thought Kobolds were basically German trolls that lived underground (where we got the element name cobalt). What's up with the lizard man thing?
Are these fairly common fantasy world denizens? I need to brush up, I guess...
PETER AND THE VAMPIRES is a horror/comedy web novel (and a free podcast!)about a normal, 10-year-old kid who moves into a sinister town filled with supernatural horribleness. The series is composed of different "monster of the week" stories - kind of like THE X-FILES crossed with THE SIMPSONS (if Mr. Burns were a ghoul and something terrifying lived in the town dump). "Peter And The Dead Men" is the first story in the collection. A new page is posted every day.

Oh that's sneaky, good thing he is able to bend out of the way.
At least Peter is trying to enjoy the show, even though he is scared out of his wits at times.
