Hmm, I must forget to check the site more often, if there's three pages waiting for me when I finally do.

The nerds are treating Peter worse than the frat boys! (Well, apart from the whole, 'I want to eat you' thing.) Oh, the humanity. I wonder if Peter'll be labelled a nerd in high school?

"Oh, it's that Normal kid, always talking about defeating some vampires or some such. Probably that new computer game."

"Where did you learn the phrase 'some such'? You're supposed to be a stereotypical jock for hypothetical purposes!"

"Whoops, sorry."

As for the brain: I've heard of this in a different context - it's to do with the philosophy of mind, and how, if you can function somewhat without consciously seeing things, what's the point of consciousness at all? And there's stuff about zombies in there as well.

Maphy - Uh, beats me. I got nothing, again.

Shame on you mean nerds! Shame on you!

Peter's last name is "Normal"? Seriously? I must have missed that...

On the nerds... A sad example of how people who are picked on or otherwise marginalized themselves often seem to jump on the chance to torment someone even further down the food chain than they are. :-(

Word verification: Dergedsi: an alien race resembling sentient oatmeal, created for a Doctor Who episode that, for mysterious reasons, never aired.

Rubberduck -
Yeah, it's pretty bad when the nerds turn on you.

Except they're older nerds, so they've GOT to turn on SOMEBODY to feel better about themselves. Younger nerds will do.

(See? I skewer everybody in these stories - frat boys, nerds, it don't matter. And yes, I was a nerd back in school. Still feel like one occasionally.)

I took the information about the brain from some article I read in DISCOVER magazine a couple of years ago. Lower brain "reptile" sight isn't the same as higher brain "human" sight. The "reptile" sight demonstrated by the blind person in the article was at almost a subconscious level - the person still wasn't aware that he was seeing the objects, he could just instinctively point towards shapes or grab certain objects.

I don't know about you, but I much prefer consciousness and enhanced functionality rather than "quasiconscious" sight and functioning, whether there's a point to it or not.

No offense to philosophy lovers everywhere, but I think it's bass-ackwards a lot of the time.

THF -
Hear, hear!

Miss Lynx -
Seriously? You missed Dill's whole annoying (and, I thought, funny) routine about the Normal family back in DEAD MEN, around page 25-30?

That's not...normal.

-Snort-

And excellent sociological deconstruction of the nerds' behavior! You've hit it exactly on the head, I think.

Well, I did read the story straight from the beginning, so I guess either I blocked it out of my mind or else I'm en route to becoming the classic absent-minded professor. Not that I'm actually a professor, mind you... Anyway, sorry about that. I guess my memory plays tricks on me.

However, perhaps in compensation for that, I do seem to have an endless capacity to come up with definitions for nonexistent words. This comments WV word is muntuato, which I have decided is a derogatory Spanish slang term used in certain areas of Argentina meaning "a person of limited intelligence, possibly as a result of inbreeding, who makes their living selling intimate services to donkeys."

And since Rubberduck was having trouble with his/hers, let me try that one: Maphy: a species of deep-sea fish found only in the Antarctic, and prized by seafood connoisseurs for its ability to retain its bioluminescence even when cooked, making for an enchanting effect at candlelight dinners.

I don't think it counts any more unless you only were once a month.

What I'm looking forward to:

Peter and the Werenerds
Peter and the Muntuatos
Peter and the Mutant Maphy Mafia

Miss Lynx -
Sorry? No need to be sorry! I thought you might recheck that area and find that I was mimicking Dill with the "That's not Normal" line.

Nice definitions - you have a fan in Todd, for certain!

Todd -
Only when the moon is full...and the night before and after...

I am DEFINITELY looking forward to "Werenerds."

The others I might pawn off on the rapidly growing PETER AND THE... fan fiction community. Non-canon, of course.
