OH GOD! OH GOD! OH GOD!

HOW WILL THEY REACH THE PEDDLES?!

One will stand on the seat and steer while the other is down below pushing the peddles with their hands?

QUICK PETER! SAY YOU'LL STEER!

Question! If they didn't like Jon so much, why did they share the secret/power? Was it explained and I missed it?

ooc: my word sounds gross today. biledeme.

Hurry Peter, time to save your family. I hope they don't hit anyone while driving that car.

Looks like Chubs was his "yes" man, or an actual friend of his.

"yeah, about Chubbs"..
"back at you, dipwad"

See, this is the purpose of Dill. Best comebacks!

I hope that Grandfather doesn't leave Peter to deal with this one on his own, but I've noticed him kind of staying in the background so that Peter learns to handle things.
Let's just hope they don't have to go "corpse diving" to get teh keys. Ugh! :-p

I still have hope that Charlie is secretly still alive and only horribly wounded. :(

I forget how long a drive it is to get there, but tell me Grandfather is still on his way!

Also, I hope the doors to the legal office are locked, or at least there's a couple closed ones so Melissa will know something's coming.

I don't think we have to worry though. I mean, Beth is there. She's more than capable of handling this. :)

I'd say you've probably hit upon the solution there, N7...

I think I told Todd a long time ago I'd explain why I thought each of the frat brothers was chosen, and that time seems to have come.

Mind you, none of this is in the story; it's just what I think.

I think Kyle chose Jon first because Jon shares Kyle's bravado, sociopathic tendencies and complete disregard for authority. I figure they got along pretty well as regular frat brothers, but as soon as Kyle and Jon entered into a one-on-one wolf pack, Jon began to chafe at being number two. In Jon's mind, Kyle doesn't deserve to be top dog; he just lucked into it because he was in the right place at the right time. Jon's resentment and anger began to show through, and he began to openly defy Kyle.

In Kyle's mind, Jon is clearly inferior to him, though Jon is smarter and more capable than anyone else Kyle knows. Unfortunately, that became a problem over time as Jon began to mouth off more often and openly challenge him. Although he doesn't really think Jon could take him, Kyle is smart enough to not totally discount the possibility.

By the way, I would characterize Jon and Kyle as frenemies, not as outright foes. They like hanging out with each other the majority of the time because of their 'obvious superiority' to the other 99.9% of the world.

For his second pick, Kyle decided to go for loyalty, and for somebody who would never challenge him - but who had a mean, nasty streak, too. That was Chubbs. Unfortunately, Chubbs was as dumb as a doorknob. While it's nice to have an unquestioning lackey, Chubbs bores the hell out of Kyle in any situation other than partying. He's like an exceptionally dumb pet dog - Kyle has a lot of affection for him, but absolutely no respect.

Charlie was an attempt to compromise. He's obviously smart - much smarter than Chubbs, and probably smarter than Jon, too. But he lacked Jon's extreme self-confidence, and would therefore be easy to control.

What sealed the deal was the rage Kyle sensed beneath Charlie's surface: hatred towards his father, towards his own weakness, about his shyness and failures with women. Kyle believed that, deep down, Charlie was as dark as he was. He thought that with the proper amount of power, Charlie would blossom into a worthy #2 who could easily unseat Jon, but who would always be too weak to effectively challenge Kyle. And Charlie would owe his new, improved life all to Kyle, which would cement his undying loyalty.

What Kyle didn't take into account was Charlie's innate humanity and sense of goodness. Beneath the anger and self-loathing, Charlie isn't a sociopath; he's a good kid who made a couple of spectacularly bad choices. But in the end, he stood up for what was right, even though he knew he might pay the ultimate price in doing so.

I was afraid I would run out of room!

Yeah, I'd say that Kyle really liked Chubbs. He just didn't respect him at ALL. But he's furious when Chubbs gets killed.

In fact, I'd say he liked Jon quite a bit, too, although with Jon, it was more a case of "He may be a jackhole, but he's MY jackhole, and you guys killed him, so now I'm gonna kill YOU."

Fiona -
You know it! Come on, people, give the Dillster some love!

Maryad -
Hey, Maryad! Thanks for writing in!
Corpse diving - that's AWESOME. Love that term!

Rai -
Sorry, Rai. Charlie's shuffled off this mortal coil.

True - give Beth a silver letter opener and she'd solve this mess in a matter of seconds.

It might not even have to be silver.

Thanks, Darren!

I have long loved the word "dipwad."

Excellent, Darren! (both the chapter and the explanation for Kyle's choices)

I'm almost hoping Grandfather & Peter get to the legal office too late. I would love to see Beth send Kyle running with his tail between his legs. Yipe yipe yipe... :)
