The imagery of the icy hell is wildly appropriate, given that the lord of the demesne is a demon. Didn't Dante refer to an icy layer of hell?

I think it was down around the 4th or so layer, but I don't remember.

And maybe the antler is to help give control of the sled once they get going. His luck kicked in, now lets see how he uses it.
